Program from 12 Noon - 1PM

Join us for our first meeting of 2020!  For our January 16 Professional Development lunch meeting, we’re putting together a panel of  event planners who work with and for nonprofits. This program on "Inspiring Fundraising Events" will provide you with some great tips that you will be able to take back to the office and implement as part of your next big event!  There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.

Our panel of experts will include:

    Melissa Davis-Schmit
 - Regional Program Director-Lincoln, Make-A-Wish Nebraska

A native Lincolnite, Melissa fell in love with nonprofits when she was only a teenager. Inspired during her Lincoln East coursework, Melissa quickly developed a deep passion for charitable work. This resolve stuck with her and while studying at Nebraska Wesleyan University and through receiving her Masters of Social Work from the University of Nebraska Omaha, Melissa knew her career would be centered around helping children. Whether it’s been in the role of social worker, therapist, or wish granter, Melissa has dedicated over 25 years to the wellbeing of Lincoln area children. As the Regional Director for Make-A-Wish Nebraska, each of her past experiences assist her in determining a child’s one true wish, recruiting volunteers, or planning fundraising events. She and her husband Chris hope their two daughters, Peyton and Ella, will find their own passions at a young age as well.

Morgan Thomsen - Director of Annual Giving at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center Foundation

Morgan Thomsen is the Director of Annual Giving at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center Foundation. As the Director of Annual Giving, Morgan oversees all fundraising events and committees. In her free time she volunteers for various non-profits in the Omaha community, such as the Junior League of Omaha, Omaha Performing Arts and Women’s Center for Advancement. Previously, Morgan worked for Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas, as a Senior Foundation Services & Events Coordinator. She graduated from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a degree in Journalism & Mass Communications.

Rachel Richards – Owner of STEP Group Events

By combining her 15 years of experience in the events industry with a lifetime of loving celebrations of all kinds, Rachel Richards has made a name for herself as a premier event producer and designer.  As owner of STEP Group Events she has produced some of Omaha’s most unique private, corporate and non-profit events. She brings her amazing events to life through her energetic dedication to each creative idea and exudes a love for individuality, a talent for big-picture planning and detail-driven execution. Her passion for events can be seen in the many community event projects she has been and continues to be involved in, including Children’s Hospital’s Wine Women and Shoes, Habitat for Humanity’s Brew Haha, MAHA Musical Festival and Nebraska Aids Project’s Night of 1000 Stars. Some of her on-going corporate clients include Sojern, LinkedIn, Farm Credit Services of America and White Lotus. Rachel has also recently opened the doors to House of R alongside her business partner and brother Vic. House of R is Omaha’s premiere event experience venue located in Countryside Village.

Kelley Peterson - Vice President & Nonprofit Creative Director, KidGlov

Kelley Peterson brings together two distinct bodies of knowledge – corporate marketing and nonprofit development and communications – wrapping them up in her passion for work that has purpose and delivers creative, practical, game-changing presentations to nonprofit organizations and conferences across the U.S.  Kelley holds Professional Certified Marketer (PCM) status through the American Marketing Association, has served in local and national leadership positions with the American Marketing Association and was named Marketer of the Year by her local American Marketing Association chapter. She worked as marketing director for a large nonprofit children’s home and vice president of marketing communications for a statewide children and families foundation.  Today, Kelley works with clients nationwide as a creative director at KidGlov, an agency helping changemaking organizations build their brands and tell their stories in powerful, results-driving ways. Kelley not only understands marketing tactics and the power they have, but how they can be best used in the unique world of nonprofits.
