President's Report

Dear AFP-NE members,

By now you know that we will be taking a break from our annual Give and Gain conference this fall. However, we don’t want to miss an opportunity to bring a well-known speaker and author to Omaha, and that’s just what we have in our September event with Marty Clarke. 

I first heard Marty in 2013, when Children's Hospital & Medical Center brought him in to talk about leadership and communication with managers from throughout our organization. I can honestly say that he is one of the most engaging speakers I've heard. He ties everything in to real life episodes and I promise that you'll laugh your way through the morning. His "Communication Landmines" presentation will make you think about not just how you communicate in your professional life, but in your personal life as well. He is excited about coming to Omaha, and I’m thrilled that we can offer this morning presentation to you all. 

I hope that you will attend on Sept. 14! This is open to non-AFP members as well also, so please feel free to bring others from your organization, board members and friends.

Please join the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the Charitable Gift Planners of Nebraska (formerly the NPPP) for a presentation on “Communication Landmines.”

AFP and CGPNE are excited to bring Marty Clarke, nationally known speaker, consultant and author, to Nebraska. Extremely upbeat, funny, and energetic, this workshop is very short on theory and very long on practical application as Marty walks you around the landmines lurking in your:

•  Face to Face Meetings

Member Q&A

Meet a Member - Sabrina Weiss! 

Q: What is your title at Omaha Performing Arts and what is a typical day like? What do you like most about your job? 
A: Vice President of Development, Omaha Performing Arts. Every day is different and that’s one of the things I love most about my job. I spend a great deal of my time visiting with fascinating people in our community, other days I’m behind my desk writing grants and stewardship reports, and sometimes I get to see some pretty awesome shows!

Q: What made you decide to go into fundraising as a profession?
A: I went to a performing arts college and danced in a company while I received my degree in non-profit arts management. While there, I realized I didn’t want to be a professional dancer but, rather wanted a career in arts management. While doing a development internship at the Oklahoma Arts Institute, I found I had a passion for fundraising and thought about it more as a profession.

Q: What was your first paid job?
A: My first paid job out of college was working as a dance teacher for Oklahoma City Public Schools. I started a dance program at an inner city middle school.

Q: What do you like to do for fun when you aren’t at work?
A: I love spending time with my family and friends – cooking, traveling, and spending time outdoors.

Q: What is your role on the AFP Board?
A: Member-at-large, National Philanthropy Day Chair

Q: What are you most excited for during the NPD Awards?
A: I am most excited to honor the award recipients and highlight how they have made such a significant impact across the state of Nebraska
